Cabinet 2.0

Cabinet 2.0, re-imaged for the new millennium.

Revolving Door Cabinet

President Trump wants to combine the departments of Labor and Education, in a first step toward eliminating the Department of Education, and ultimately shrinking the size of government. The Senator thinks it's a timid move, at best. The current Cabinet is an unwieldy behemoth, with 15 members and 8 additional cabinet-level positions. Time to streamline and privatize this baby; It’ll make it easier, later on, to drown it in the bathtub.

The Senator proposes returning the cabinet to its original size and structure, as established by our first president, George Washington. That cabinet consisted of the President, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of War, and the Attorney General. The Senator would replicate that five-some but replace the State Department with the Energy Department, in a nod to what drives our amazing modern consumerist economy. Most State Department business has to do with using military force to compel o
ther countries around the globe to open markets to American goods, so State would naturally be subsumed under the War Department as the Ministry of State.

All other cabinet positions and their departments will either be subsumed into these four departments and turned into ministries, or eliminated altogether, the sooner the better.

The Vice President will no longer be a Cabinet member, returning,
as in Washington’s presidency, to the position of President of the Senate. He or she will also no longer be in the line of succession to the presidency, as befits the position’s actual importance.

All of the Cabinet positions will still be appointed by the President, so he can continue to reward loyalty and return favors, but the ministries would be turned over to appropriate corporations based on those corporations' areas of expertise and their ability to self regulate. Every year, each of these ministries would be leased to the highest corporate bidder, thus bringing much-needed new blood
into the government, as well as billions of dollars in revenue to help pay for further Republican tax cuts.

The Defense Department would once again become the Department of War, for as we all know, the best defense is a good offense. The Education Department would become the Ministry of Re-Education, and will be completely turned over to corporations thus finally ending our shabby experiment in socialist public schools.

We will also create a Ministry of Propaganda, to institutionalize our actual relationships with Fox and Friends and the rest of conservative media, and Health and Human services would become the Ministry of Women’s Health, the only real facet of life government has any business controlling.

Finally, all government initiatives will now have to get the blessing of the new Ministry of Biblical Enforcement, which will search for appropriate Biblical passages, preferably Old Testament, for moral and legal justifications.
