Slavery gave plantations a bad rap and a sullied name. Senator Sky Damon has an idea to breathe new life into this old concept, an idea called Mobile Plantations. With the rise in homelessness coinciding with a shortage of migrant workers, and the industrial agriculture sector wanting for laborers, the Senator proposes reviving the once-robust plantation system and staffing it with the burgeoning homeless population. The plantations would also be available for use with the Sustainable Worker Program.
These vulnerable Americans would be housed and fed in used FEMA trailers which could be moved from industrial lot to industrial lot. Since most of their days will be spent out in the sunshine and fresh air, these new workers would have limited exposure to the carcinogens known to permeate these government-owned mobile homes. Certainly, living in a mildly toxic home is better than having no home at all.
Also, recognizing the high-than-normal incidence of mental illness among this itinerant population, every mobile plantation will have a board-certified psychiatrist on the premises, to administer the drugs necessary to maximize worker productivity.
